Richard A. (Dick) Wight Founder and President of Energy Market Solutions.
Dick has over 35 years of utility management and consulting experience in distribution engineering, field operations, rate design, load research, marketing research, market planning, program development, and program evaluation. He spent over 25 years with the Southern Company. Mr. Wight holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) and a Master of Business Administration degree in Marketing from Georgia State University.
For the last seven years, EMSs consulting practice has centered on utility strategic market positioning for the future both from a regulated and unregulated perspective. In supporting our clients in their positioning strategy development, EMS provides marketing positioning, market research, program design, and product/service market assessment consulting services for gas and electric utilities.
Dicks most recent projects have centered on consulting in the area of new product/service and pricing-related offerings. In directing these projects, Dick has used his experience in identifying customer energy related needs and supplier expectations; determining the level of, and drivers of customer loyalty; developing and applying customer behavior-based market segmentation methods; identifying key customer energy service value drivers; analyzing trade ally relationships; and, developing utility-focused customer research training.
Because of his utility and consulting experience, Dick has frequently spoken on a variety of industry issues and been recognized for many years as a leader on what is really important to customers. He currently serves on the Program Planning Committee of the Energy Market Research Program at the annual AMA Marketing Research Conference. He has served on many faculties including the EEI Electric Rates Advanced Course at Indiana University teaching on the issue of "Market-Based Pricing", the Utility Rate Fundamentals Course at Indiana University, the Electric Utility Market Research Course at the University of Texas, and the Georgia Tech Load Research Sampling Methods and Statistical Analysis Course.
